Yesterday, I posted an article about 2014 China Mobile Sites Trends Report by Baidu, and there is part two of the report, but focuses more on mobile search side. Some important notes are highlighted below.
1. Baidu mobile search becomes a major traffic source for China mobile sites
In 2014, the trends of traffic generated by Baidu mobile search shows that it has achieved more than 100% increase as a traffic generator for mobile sites in China through out the year.
2. The Growth Rate of Baidu Mobile Search Queries Beats Smartphones Active Users
The growth curve of smartphone active users is getting flat indicates that China is loosing demographic dividend in smaretphone industry, but with the huge infrastructure base the search queries generated by Baidu mobile search managed to achieve much more improvement.
3. Popular Mobile Search Queries Terms
Baidu noticed that in 2014 the highest increase of mobile search queries (compared to 2013) are related to movie ticket (194%), education and training (191%) and local service (142%). This is a strong indication that people tend to use mobile search for location base service, O2O or local service that PC doesn’t support. Baidu also released Poplar Algorithm to give more preference to mobile sites of local service provider. In that case mobile site owner needs to ensure they have added geolocation attribute to the meta data.
4. Audio Search Beats Text Search
A huge revolutionary element of mobile search over web is obviously that users are not entirely dependent on text/terms, but also image and voice. Baidu also noticed the growth rate of audio search over mobile is much higher than text search over mobile’s. How to optimize your mobile site for this trend proactively is another topic we can dig deeper in the coming months.
